Starting training at Bauer: a new chapter begins

Schrobenhausen, Germany – September 1st was an exciting date for many young people once again: it marked the start of a new chapter in their lives. At BAUER AG, a total of 38 young individuals began their apprenticeships, filling all available training positions in Schrobenhausen.

Five apprentices from the BAUER MAT Slurry Handling Systems branch in Immenstadt (Allgäu), accompanied by their trainer Anita Kleimeier, also traveled to Schrobenhausen to begin their apprenticeships. Additionally, a lateral entrant is continuing his apprenticeship as a Technical Product Designer in his third year at Bauer, after his original training company discontinued the dual training program.

To ease the transition into working life, the new apprentices participated in a three-day orientation program. The kickoff took place immediately after the welcome session with a trip to Schloss Scherneck. There, the young people tackled tasks together, tried out the high ropes course, and made their first connections. “Changing the location contributes to a more relaxed atmosphere on the first day,” says Training Manager Gerhard Piske, who has been organizing onboarding with his team for many years.

On the second day, the apprentices got exciting insights through informational presentations, followed by a tour of the Aresing plant. As every year, a highlight awaited: on the training grounds, the apprentices got behind the wheel and operated the massive drilling rigs themselves – a hands-on experience that generated a lot of excitement. The third day featured more engaging presentations, followed by another plant tour in Edelshausen in the afternoon.

A key part of the first days is traditionally the various workshops. For example, the apprentices worked in teams to develop their own set of workplace rules. They now take the ten most important of these rules with them as a guide throughout their apprenticeship.

“We have been running this three-day onboarding program for many years,” explains Gerhard Piske. It helps relieve the young employees’ nerves. Through group activities, they get to know each other and make new connections right away. Most importantly, they gain a solid overview of the company and Bauer’s work, entering their respective departments on the fourth day with increased confidence.
